Phelps Mill

It started as a idea…build a mill powered by the Red River and grind the wheat that grew
abundantly in the fertile Otter Tail County soil.
In 1889 William and Nonie Thomas opened
the doors of the “"The Maine Roller Mills," as
it was then called. The Thomas’s sold the mill in 1919 when it became cheaper to use the railroad system to ship grain to Minneapolis.
Phelps Mill was placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1965.
